It seems there is a new rumour circulating – no not when the iPhone 7 will be released, but about Error 53.
For some iPhone 6 owners its cause anger as their most prized (and expensive) possession is quickly turned into a worthless brick.
The error is reported to appear when an iPhone running iOS 9 or above is repaired by a none Apple authorised person. Quite how the phone knows this is somewhat a mystery! Users who have reported cracked screens being replaced by local repair shops have experienced the error which renders the phone useless.
theguradian.com quotes Apple as saying:
She adds: “When an iPhone is serviced by an unauthorised repair provider, faulty screens or other invalid components that affect the touch ID sensor could cause the check to fail if the pairing cannot be validated. With a subsequent update or restore, additional security checks result in an ‘error 53’ being displayed … If a customer encounters an unrecoverable error 53, we recommend contacting Apple support.”
Which would suggest Apple are all too aware of the issue.
We’d recommend at least for now, getting your iPhone repaired by Apple, or at least by a warranty company so if things go wrong you have some recourse!
